Manny wants a Gold Glove

First he’s a poet now he wants to be win a gold glove*. The Boston Herald reports [Thanks Buster Olney]:

“I think I’m the best ever to play left field in Boston,” the slugger said.

Manny does judge the bounces off the Green Monster fairly well, but that does not mean he plays a good left field. Discounting his performance on the road, Manny still isn’t a good fielder at home because of his judgment of balls that don’t hit the Monster. When you take into account his road performance Manny is consistently one of the worst left fielders in baseball.

Chalk this up to Manny being Manny.

*The Gold Gloves are the most ludicrous awards handed out by major league baseball. Sabermetrics have shown that Gold Glove winners are rarely the best fielders at their position, and sometimes the winners are some of the worst fielders.

Manny usually leads outfielders in assists so he isn’t as bad as you make him out to be.

His problem is he is flaky. If he tried harder he would be a much better player.

You should learn the name of a team before you write about it. The Tampa Bay RAYS not Devil Rays. Terrible for an AL East fan to not know this.

  3. @FireDannyAinge Agreed…. his arm is good and he gets the assists because of runners misjudging the monster. Manny being Manny=well-below average fielder

@Steve… first off all where do I make the mistake in this post? Second of all I’m pretty sure that a lot of people make the mistake because of what the name used to be. If you wanna criticize me get creative.
